The Sailor Way
The Sailor Way is our commitment to building decks that are safe, structurally sound, and built to last. We follow proven construction standards, prioritize worker and homeowner safety, and never cut corners that compromise long-term performance. Every project is approached with the mindset that it should outlive trends—and exceed expectations.
Our Standards & Project Policies
At Sailor Deck Pros, we believe great outcomes come from clear standards, safe practices, and honest expectations. The following policies outline how we approach safety, structural integrity, code compliance, and project execution.
Safety First — Always
We prioritize safety for our crew, homeowners, and property. This includes the use of appropriate fall protection, access equipment, and jobsite controls based on project conditions.
If a task cannot be performed safely, it will not be performed until conditions allow. This may affect scheduling, access requirements, or project sequencing.
Structural Integrity Comes Before Cosmetics
Decks are structural systems, not surface finishes. We do not install new decking, railings, or finishes over framing that is compromised, improperly built, or beyond its reasonable service life.
If existing framing does not meet structural or safety standards, replacement or reconstruction will be required before cosmetic upgrades can proceed.
Existing Deck Evaluations
When working on or near an existing deck, we evaluate framing, connections, footings, and overall geometry. If hidden conditions are discovered during demolition or inspection, scope and pricing may be adjusted accordingly.
We do not guarantee the condition of concealed elements until they are exposed.
Code Compliance & Permitting
All work is performed in accordance with applicable building codes and local requirements at the time of construction.
Permits and inspections will be obtained when required. Design or construction methods that do not meet code—regardless of prior installations or homeowner preference—will not be used.
Materials & Construction Standards
We use proven materials and construction methods suitable for outdoor structural applications. Substitutions or deviations from our standard practices must be approved in writing.
Material availability, manufacturer changes, or site conditions may require equivalent substitutions.
Site Access & Conditions
Safe access to the work area must be maintained. This includes stable ground conditions, reasonable clearance, and the removal of personal property or obstructions as needed.
Work may be paused if site conditions become unsafe due to weather, terrain, or access limitations.
Billing, Payments & Change Orders
Project pricing is based on defined scopes of work. Any changes to scope—requested by the homeowner or required due to site conditions—will be documented and approved before proceeding.
Payments are due according to the terms outlined in your proposal or agreement. Work may be paused for late or missed payments.
Estimates & Online Tools
Online estimates and preliminary pricing tools provide non-binding ranges intended for planning purposes only. Final pricing is established through a written proposal.
Scheduling & Weather
Construction schedules are estimates and may change due to weather, inspections, material availability, or unforeseen site conditions. Outdoor construction is inherently weather-dependent.
Respect for Property
We treat your property with care and professionalism. While construction is disruptive by nature, we take reasonable steps to minimize impact and leave the site orderly at the end of each workday.
Right to Decline Work
We reserve the right to decline or discontinue work that falls outside our standards, scope, or safety requirements.
Questions?
If you have questions about our standards or how they apply to your project, we’re happy to discuss them after you’ve reviewed an estimate and are considering next steps.
